A summary of the skills required to ‘up’ our relational resilience—ie., the ability to engage in authentic relationships built on a foundation of trust. Just a few of these skills include listening infused with curiosity, refraining from the need to be right, expressing authentic gratitude, patience to allow problems to unfurl in their own timing, practicing self-awareness, making the “intangibles” visible, acknowledging vulnerability, and taking responsibility for our egos fears and demands that the world be how we want it to be (vs allowing it to be how it is).
Conflict is inevitable. Learning from it is not. In this essay, I share how I finally put down my positional tendencies and learned to balance a resect for my own point of view with a curiosity about and tolerance for differences with someone I love. It’s time to build relationships of resilience especially if we are leading an organization.
